OPSS warn magnetic reusable water balloons could be dangerous

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is warning consumers that certain magnetic reusable water balloons pose a risk of death or serious injury if two or more magnets are swallowed.

OPSS investigations revealed that some of the above mentioned products sold through online marketplaces had easily accessible magnets and had higher magnetic force (flux) than allowed.

All magnets are potentially dangerous when swallowed, as they can cause serious internal injuries and death.

Businesses must not sell magnetic reusable water balloons that exceed the flux rating set in Standard EN71 or otherwise breach the safety requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
