Tools for soil health and preventing climate change

Soil carbon check is part of Eurofins Soil Health Solutions. The healthier the soil, the better it contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals.

With Soil carbon check we can know how much carbon is retained in the soil and how the soil carbon is stabilized through determining organic carbon, inorganic carbon, activated carbon and carbon dioxide in the soil. This can help improve soil carbon, optimize soil carbon management, and grow over time. From there, we will aim to increase soil carbon by 4‰ (or 0.4%).

If the amount of carbon stored in soil increased by 4‰ per year, the annual increase in carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere would decrease significantly. Increasing soil organic carbon increases carbon credits that increase income for farmers and/or landowners. This will slow down the greenhouse effect and prevent further climate change, as agreed in the Paris Agreement (COP 21) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

To understand soil health and how different human activities (i.e., cultivation, land use, etc.) impact it, we need to understand the soil. The soil also contains micro and macro organisms that support plant, animal and human life. When organic matter breaks down, it is transformed into different pools as sources of plant nutrients at various degrees of availability and eventually forms the final product called humus. This product becomes the central building block of healthy soil. Therefore, the maintenance of soil organic matter (SOM) is critical to the health and productivity of the soil; providing a stable soil physical structure for water storage, nutrient exchange with plant roots, aeration and a healthy microbial community will enhance soil health for healthy plant growth.

Coming to Eurofins Sac Ky Hai Dang's soil analysis and assessment service, you will better understand the health of your soil.
