Japan's Revised MRLs for Pesticides in 19/06/2025

On June 19, 2025 Japan's Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) released an amendment to the Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for 3 pesticides: Fluazinam, Flupyrimin, Mandestrobin in certain food products. The amendment will be implemented immediately upon publication. However, certain food products will be implemented one year after publication. The change is as follows:

  • MRLs in food have been Immediate revised for the following 3 substances: Fluazinam, Flupyrimin, Mandestrobin.

Foods to which residue limits will apply one year after publication:

  • Fluazinam:  Adzuki beans, yams (Japanese yams), daikon radish (including radishes) roots, burdock, lettuce (including salad greens and chisha), onions, green onions (including leeks), whole Natsumikan fruit, lemons, oranges (including navel oranges), grapefruit, limes, other citrus fruits, Japanese pears, Western pears, and plums.
  • Mandestrobin: Tomato, cucumber (including Gherkin), and tea.

Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/1164 as regards maximum residue levels Cyantraniliprole, Cyflumetofen, Deltamethrin, Mefentrifluconazole, Mepiquat and Oxathiapiprolin in or on certain products 13/06/2025

On 13 June 2025 Commission Regulation (EU) 2025/1164 amending Annex II and III to Regulation (EC) No 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards maximum residue levels for Cyantraniliprole, Cyflumetofen, Deltamethrin, Mefentrifluconazole, Mepiquat and Oxathiapiprolin in or on certain products:

  • For Cyantraniliprole the Authority did not identify risks to consumers in the Union, can be considered safe. Therefore the existing MRL should be raised . Specifically:

  • Cyflumetofen is an acaricide commonly used in agriculture, especially on fruit and vegetable crops. There are changes in MRLs in or on certain products Specifically:

  • Deltamethrin is a synthetic insecticide from the pyrethroid family, used to control various pests in agriculture, public health, and household settings. There was a change in the maximum limit for Deltamethrin in papaya with MRLs changing from 0.1 to 0.2.
  • Mefentrifluconazole is a triazole fungicide used to protect crops such as cereals, soybeans and nuts from fungal diseases. The Authority did not identify risks to consumers in the Union, can be considered safe. Therefore the existing MRL should be raised. Specifically:

  • Mepiquat is a plant growth regulator, commonly used in cotton, wheat and cereals to control plant height and improve yield. There are changes in MRLs in or on certain products. Specifically:

  • Oxathiapiprolin is a fungicide belonging to a new class of piperidinyl thiazole isoxazoline compounds. It's highly effective against oomycete pathogens, including those causing downy mildew and late blight on various crops. There are changes in MRLs in or on certain products. Specifically:

 Changes pesticide residue limits in or on certain products in 05/2025

1. On 19/05/2025, the US Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Added Sulfentrazone in Corn, pop, grain with Mrls: 0.15ppm.

Viet Nam

Decree No. 148/2025/NĐ-CP on Decentralization and Delegation in the Field of Food Safety Regarding the Issuance of Certificates for Exported Food Dated June 12, 2025

On June 12, 2025, the Government issued Decree No. 148/2025/NĐ-CP, which stipulates the authority, procedures, and processes for implementing tasks and powers of agencies and competent individuals that need to be adjusted to carry out decentralization and delegation. This marks an important step in enhancing the effectiveness of state management, strengthening the responsibility and initiative of specialized agencies.

Specifically: “Organizations and individuals involved in the production and business of exported food shipments or food production facilities for export may apply for a certificate by submitting their application to the competent authority. Applications can be submitted via the online public service system, directly in person, or by post to the One-Stop Service Department of the province.”

During the effective period of this Decree, if the provisions on authority, state management responsibilities, procedures, and processes differ from those in other relevant legal documents, the provisions of this Decree shall prevail.

This Decree takes effect from July 1, 2025, and will expire on March 1, 2027, except in the following cases:

  • Ministries or ministerial-level agencies report to the Government and are approved by the National Assembly to extend the application of all or part of this Decree;
  • Laws, resolutions of the National Assembly, ordinances, resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, decrees, resolutions of the Government, or decisions of the Prime Minister that stipulate authority, state management responsibilities, procedures, and processes as regulated in this Decree are passed or issued from July 1, 2025, and take effect before March 1, 2027. In such cases, the corresponding provisions of this Decree shall expire at the time those legal documents take effect.
