Updated legal regulations on food safety in force from November 2023
Circular "Amending, supplementing and abolishing a number of legal documents on food safety issued by the Minister of Health" in force from November 9, 2023
On September 25, 2023, the Ministry of Health issued Circular No. 17/2023/TT-BYT on "Amending, supplementing and abolishing a number of legal documents on food safety issued by the Minister of Health".
Some points to focus on in the circular are as follows:
- Amending and supplementing a number of articles in Circular No. 24/2019/TT-BYT, including: Adding and amending 18 food additives on the maximum level of use of food additives in food not yet regulated (see details in Appendix 1, page 14 of the circular)
- Amending and supplementing Decision No. 46/2007/QD-BYT Regulations on Maximum Limits of Biological and Chemical Contamination in Food, including the following need to take note:
- Supplementing and amending the List of processing aids allowed to be used in food production and trading (see details in Appendix 2, page 20 of the circular)
- Abolish the following sections of Decision 46/2007/QD-BYT
- Section 4.5 regulates hygiene and sanitation of detergents used to wash utensils in contact with food
- Section 4.6 Regulations on maximum limits of heavy metals released from food storage, preservation and cooking equipment
- Section 6.5 Regulations on allowable limits of microorganisms in cereals and cereal products
- Section 6.8 Regulations on allowable limits of microorganisms in spices and sauces
- Section 6.11 Regulations on allowable limits for microorganisms in canned foods
- Section 6.12 Regulations on allowable limits for microorganisms in oil and grease
- Part 7 List of processing aids allowed for use in food production and processing
This Circular will be enforced from November 9, 2023
